Don't let the title fool you. I just wanted to have a coolio title. Anyway, I had to post how my Tennis tryouts went.
Last year, I made Junior Varsity. This was not the best thing. I didn't like it. It was not super fun. I mean, I liked it, but I didn't think it was the coolest thing ever. This year, I tried out again.
So, here's how it went:
I arrived at tryouts. The sun was shining. A friend I knew was there. We had previously talked about tryouts, and we both hoped to make Varsity. I parked my truck and pulled the key out. My hand was shaking. I opened the door.
"Coby. You ready?"
"Ready as I can get." I slammed the door shut, my bag bouncing on my leg. I walked to the other side. All the other side doors were locked. I open the gate and we gather around Coach Vogt.
"Alright. Take three laps, stretch, and we'll start." We do this, and then we begin. We line up on the North side of the courts. Sean, the local pro, starts to feed us.
"Alright, I'll tell you court 1, 2, or 3 after you hit a few." The first three go. All go to court one. All were extremely good. The next one goes. He's called to court 3. The next 4 go. All Court 1. All Varsity material. I'm up.
The ball lands, and I hit it. Bad feed, I have to pick it up off the ground.
Second one. Bad feed again. I'm off balance. Too far away from me.
Third one. Again, bad feed. I pick it up off the ground once more.
"Court 3." Rats! JV again!
I watch the last people go. We all are in court 3. The coaches count the people on Varsity. There are 8. There needs to be 10. The coaches decide to get 2 JV onto the Varsity, so we go again. We serve.
I serve incredible. We have to hit again. I get good feeds. I hit okayish. We sit on the court, waiting the final decision. They deliberate for a while. We're all called to gather around the coaches. Coach Vogt pulls out her clipboard.
"Okay, great tryouts everyone. These people are to meet me here at Bruin Courts for Varsity practice on Monday."
I hold my breath.
"Dan Olsen. Andrew Bortz. Michael Zitterkopf. Dallas Hunt. Punn. Nathan Algate. Christopher Slette. Jeff Ward. Ryan Algate. Coby Carter."
I just about pass out.
I MADE VARSITY TENNIS!!!!!!!

It is always a huge stress'r when they start calling out names and you don't hear yours until the very end. We are glad you made it.
WAHOO!!!! that is so totally awesome. What fun this year will be. Congratulations!!!
Congratulations! Varsity! that is awesome. Keep up the hard work and good luck on your season
CONGRATS!!!
Wahoo for you!!! I'm so glad you made the cut. It's so interesting that that experience just keeps happening in you life. It may not be tennis it may be scholarships that are being handed out or jobs that you are needing to get or girls that you want to date. It's facinating that in this life we are constantly competing for something. Isn't it wonderful that in God's world there is no competing for 1st place. Everyone can be 1st. Won't it be great when Jesus calls your name and says "you've done well. Come play on my team." Love you Coby Congrats
