The Fair

I'm not certain, but last year, when I went to the fair, I think I already posted about it. However, I do know that this year was really weird.

When I usually go to the fair, I just work on filling the condiment trays and the ketchup and mustard bottles. This year, I was doing trays. I had to wash, dry, and STACK those fiberglass trays. I swear, it was like 3 hours for every fifteen minutes.

However, at around eight, my friend and I decided to switch. We did drinks. That was a lot better, because we constantly did stuff.

There is a problem though. One kid really got on my nerves. This kid, named Clyde (not really, but I don't want to point fingers here) didn't think he was needed. So he and my brother left.

Now, the thing about Clyde is that he's always for some reason, thinking of ways not to work. Seriously, he's trying to find ways to avoid it. It really makes me want to punch him in the face.

Anyway, so he's going around the fair booth telling people what they're supposed to be doing, why they stink at their job, and how they need to quote, "Use their smarts/brains/common sense." Thing is, when he's telling people this, he's just sitting there watching them. Several times he's asked to work, and he just sluffs it off. I wanted to just scream at him, deck him, and then say he tripped and smacked into a table.

So, in spite of all this, I was signed up with a friend of mine, as I said. He and I did the same job, and it was okay except for the fact that time was just crawling along. I imagined that it was somewhere around ten a lot, when it was about six, seven, eightish. Yeah, it was that excruciating to just sit there.

We did though, get free food. Several times they messed up on an order, and they gave it to us. Mostly my friend, but I got a burger, LOTS of fries, and a free drink whenever I wanted. I think I drank about three thousand sodas. It was great.

The cool thing was, I actually got to where I didn't want to eat anymore. That usually never happens. I usually eat about ten servings of dinner, and then go look for more food. This was different. I ate so much fries that night, I think I might have turned into half salt.

The free food was not the only reason we were there though. This fair booth was a fund-raiser for our scout troop. I think that makes up half of the money they get, but I'm not sure.

When we decided to leave, I was really tired, and glad. However, there was a problem.

We had to leave the parking lot.

Now, this doesn't seem that bad to you, I'm sure, but try to stay with me as I try to help you visualize this parking lot.

First off, this lot was just a giant grass field. That's it. That, and twine in lines to show where you are supposed to stop your car.

The other thing is, it's dark. The only thing I can see in the car when I get in is the lights from the fair and the steering wheel. (Pretty much)

Okay, I know, some of you have done this too, but this was hard, as it was my first time doing it.

Now, when I start the car, I turn on my lights. This helps, and a start to leave. When we do, this is what people sound like when they talk.

"HeEEEy, what TIHAYme is it?" I hate bumpy roads.

So, in this retrospect, I get to a dirt road that leads to an exit. Another problem. Its windy, so I'm turning every which way, and I'm hoping that the people in the back didn't stuff themselves like I did so they wouldn't puke all over the seats and scare me to swerving into the little sign that has a blinking arrow to show where to go. Very different drive indeed.

So we get out with minimal puking. Finally, after what seems like 4 hours of driving in the country, we pull onto Pole Line Road. I drive us home from there.

All in all, it was a fairly decent way to spend one's afternoon, evening, and night. I suppose that a couple of other people would disagree, but I enjoyed the experience, despite the fact that there's so much grease in my hair that I can style it and it will stick. I really think we got a lot of money for the scouts. Please, don't hesitate to comment.

Thanks.

I'm just thinking out loud here...

You know, after my grandfathers funeral, it really made me think. We are going to see him again correct? I know we will. We will see him for eternity. That's the part that made me think.

Let me explain a bit. You see, I've come up with several things that boggle your mind that you can't even think about. One, what was before space? Two, what's beyond space? So on and so forth.

So, this made me think. How long is eternity? It never ends. Think about it. It will never end. Just think. We return to earth because it recieves it's paradisical glory. We do not leave forever. We just stay there until... something. We just... I don't wanna explain more. It hurts my mind.

Thinking on that retrospect, let's go further.

We're working to become perfect like Heavenly Father right? Well, how was he created?

Was he, like us, working on another earth? Was he a child of his Heavenly Father? I just don't know. And, if we are working to be like him, when we are like him, will we create children like him? I wonder what we do then? Are we going to be Gods? That's just too hard to imagine.

Those are all of my ponderings. Let me know what you think.

High Adventure

I recently had a family reunion that I went to. I figure though, that my dad covered it well. I'll post about it if you want, but this is about something none of my relatives went with me on.

I gotta say, High Adventure is nothing like I thought. I thought I would be working on merit badges and stuff. No. We did so much stuff, I think that I might forget some.

First, we stayed in this fancy cabin. Nice and plush. Surround sound T.V. Ping Pong, everything.

About Ping Pong. I never really knew how good I was until I played with the leaders. I was the second best one there. I beat all but one leader. That one leader played it consistently for two years on his mission, so he's good. I about beat him too though.

We played card games too. Not much to say on that, just that I was really good at some games, and horrid at others.

We went White Water Rafting too. That was amazing. I never really knew that you could ride waves that big in a tube. I almost fell out, and I was paddling a lot. Eight miles. I loved it.

We then went back to the cabin. Stayed there again, and then left for Jackson Hole, WY. (Did I mention that's where we were?)

There, we did the Alpine Slides. Those are cool. We also went on the mini golf course. I was fourth best there I think.

We then ate dinner. That was awesome, because we went to this sweet pizza place that had THE best pizza. THE BEST. Say what you want about Little Ceasar's and whatnot, this was the best.

We then camped for a day, then headed to go float on a river. I forget the name, but it was fun. I got injured really bad though. Brother Egbert said that we all fought cougars though, so I guess that's what I got injured by. (Actually, I got flipped once, and scraped real bad, then went on the wrong side of a waterfall, and got flipped again.)

Finally, we went home, and I was happy, cuz I hadn't been home for two consecutive days in two weeks, so I was happy.

Let me know what else you want to know.

Oh! Before I forget, there was this ball thingy at the cabin, where you had this silver ball to roll on the track to get to number 100. I gotta say, it was hard, cuz you went UP walls in it. I beat it though.

Again, let me know what else you want me to post about.

Pocatello

I recently went to Pocatello with a friend of mine to see another friend that we haven't seen since spring break.

One thing to say about his house. H-U-G-E. It's on a hill that we climbed and it was an awesome view. I loved it. The other thing was, it was very quiet. I really liked it there.

When we first arrived, the first thing that went through my mind was, is this going to be like his first house? (He lived in Twin for one year.) No. It was a lot bigger, and nicer.

Now, when we got there, we only saw the outside of the house, and it was big on the outside. But, the inside was roomy not big. There was just a lot of space in their rooms.

We got there and the first thing we did? Rock Band on the Xbox.

I know, I know, some of you might be thinking, why didn't you take time to catch up? Did you talk at ALL? We talked in the car ride there and in between songs. Kinda weird.

After that, they wanted to play Call of Duty 5: World at War. First thing I thought there was, well, I'd better find something better to do. You see, COD 5 was rated "M". My friend though, said that it was "T". I didn't believe him and I asked to see the case. A giant black M on the back confirmed it. I couldn't play it.

I really didn't mind not being able to play it, it was the fact that Jonathan (name change there) wanted me to play it. Really bad. I told him that I was not going to play a rated "M" game just this once, or twice, or whatever. I was never going to play one unless my parents allowed me too. Jonathan really got sad, but started the game up anyway. My other friend, Landon, played it, and I left the room to go get a chess set to play. I got that out, and I set it up outside of the room, but they turned the volume up. I swear to you, I heard things that sounded like someone was ripping the throat out of someone. It was absolutely disgusting.

Anyway, they didn't want to play it anymore because I couldn't, and I appreciated that. We then set up Xbox live stuff, and tried to move a TV into the office.

We did that, and played Call of Duty 3. That one is rated "T". After that, we went to a pond.

When we got back, Landon said he wanted to go boating or something. Instantly, Jonathan's dad went and looked for a boat. They got one and we went boating for a few hours.

We then lit some fireworks off.

The only thing I want to say about this was, they were illegal, and I've never launched an illegal firework before. I was happy until we had to stop because bottle rockets kept landing near some gas tanks.

We ate dinner at midnight, slept, and then played Rock Band in the morning. We went boating again that day, and then my mom came back to get us.

That was our trip to Pocatello. It was mostly just a for fun thing, but I wanted to talk about it. Thanks for reading!

Gospel Principals

Lately, I've found myself trying to relate everyday experiences to gospel principals.

You see, the General Authorities usually relate experiences from their teenage years and say it relates to the gospel. I've found myself thinking the same stuff.

For instance, I was with my friends at Sawtooth School for night games, and we were on the swings. Landon flew off of one of the swings and landed on the wood divider that separated the bark from the grass. He fell onto the grass, and I thought, that's like the serving two masters. You can't stay in the middle, you fall to one side or the other.

Another time: I was riding my bike, and a car pulled into an intersection. Since they had a stop sign to obey, I figured that they would stop. They did, but very close as I came through. I thought, that's like staying on the straight and narrow. If you keep going, temptation will not break your stride.

Just some random things that I relate to the gospel and I'm wondering, does anyone else do this? Or am I the only one? If I'm not, am I coming up with dorky ideas?

Well, I just threw this out there, because I wanted to see what others had to say, so, there it is.

Yellowstone

We got back from Yellowstone today, and I gotta say, it was pretty amazing.

The car drive there was okay, but I think the coolest part was actually being in the park.

The first think that pops into my mind with the words Yellowstone National Park, is the bacteria pools. That was our first stop in the natural wonders. (Besides animals.) Technically our first stop was to look at a moose.

The bacteria pools are pretty sweet. They smell bad, like rotten egg salad, but they are awesome. The one I liked was a blue like I've never seen, and I've come to think that it was dyed that way. I know it isn't but it was still cool.

Next on our endless loop was the Bison. That was cool too.

I've never seen a bison before. I know, this might sound normal, but for some reason, they were not the way I pictured them. Somehow, (maybe off of cartoons) I came up with the idea that they were huge, furry, scary creatures. Not so. They were about the same size as your average cow, maybe bigger. We did see one that was huge though. Anyway, that was another cool thing. Also, these bison apparently don't care about cars, because they were sitting right next to the road. Some even crossed it. You'd think they'd run, but no, they sit there and chew. Kinda weird.

After that, we stopped at some place called "Old Faithful". It's apparently this geyser thing that shoots into the air like, 120 feet or something? I don't know, but, I was excited nonetheless as we went. We waited, and when it went off, it was cool. Shot up pretty far.

Then, we went to a canyon place. We ate lunch there, and then visited the Lower Falls. That was something only top notch authors can describe well, so, I'll give it my best shot, but it won't even come close to the awesomeness of the Falls.

It goes down about ten times back and forth down the face of a mountain to get to a platform that has the Falls right next to it. The Falls, green and white, are immensely loud. You can watch as the water kind of crystallizes, then turns into spray. It falls down about 100 yards, then crashes into the water below. It's cool.

That's just the major points though. Those were the parts I liked. If there's anything else you want to know about, let me know, as I am now the Yellowstone Expert. I'm probably going to be talking more about it on my video blog.

Experiments and Driving

My last blog post was extremely small. I was trying to see what my followers (all two of them) want to know when I post. So, I'm going to answer all the questions they had, and, I'm going to try and post with the questions already answered, as I know what they now want to know.

So, the first question about driving was, have I gotten in any accidents. My answer to that is no. However, I have gotten close. We were at an intersection where I had absolutely no visibility to my left side. On my right side, I had two other intersections with cars coming. Unfortunately, I had to turn left at this intersection. My instructor told me that even though I had no visibility, I could still do some things to help recognize cars coming. He turned off the radio, and turned the A/C off. Then he told me to roll the window down. I did so, and we heard cars everywhere, but I paid attention to the ones that were muffled. As the last car past, he told me to go quickly and make sure that I was ready to stop at any time. I made it, but not after a car flew in front of me as I was going to pull out. I think I could have spit on the car it was so close. But, we didn't crash.

The second question was, how long have you driven? My answer is three hours, and I don't have a long story for this.

My next question to answer is, when do you finish? I finish in three days.

The class is four weeks, and I'm in the fourth week Monday. It's going to be a week of tests. I have to do test four, five and six all in one week. That means a test a day, which isn't going to be fun. I also have to get three more hours, so I don't know what to do there, but I do know that I'm going to get them done.

Next question. Do you get nervous behind the wheel? I don't have a good answer for this one.

My personal answer would be no, but I think my body says yes.

See, when I get behind the wheel, my leg tightens up and I can't get it to relax. Also, I start sweating a bit, but, for some reason, I'm comfortable, so I really don't know.

My next question to answer: Have a made any major mistakes yet? Yes. One or two.

The first one was one where we pulled off the side of the road and he told me to listen to him, and then go "back on the road". We started to leave, and I pulled left, he used the chicken brake, and I didn't know he wanted me to go straight. I was so embarrassed. Anyway, the driving instructor was nice about it though, so I was okay after that. My other one wasn't so major, but it was a bit scary. I was driving this clutch car, and I killed the clutch on the intersection of Kimberley and Eastland. It was scary. However, I was okay after that too, so I didn't make any mistakes after that.

Finally, what do I like and don't like about driving?

For me, I just like the fact that I'm DRIVING. Me. Coby Carter is driving. That's what I like.

What I don't like is the fact that I could make one mistake and kill everyone in the car. That's really scary. I don't like it. It makes me feel like I'm going to go down as a murderer. However, that doesn't make me nervous, just scared.

Well, that's my blog post for driving. Let me know about any other questions you have, and I'll be sure to answer them.
